I'm a heating and air technician. I've been a tech for 12 years. Nowadays, I split my time between actually fixing equipment myself and talking to other techs or homeowners on how to repair their equipment. I plan on teaching HVAC once the knees give out. I feel that furnaces and ACs are your equipment, and you have every right to know what's going on. You shouldn't be forced to pay a company's exorbitant fees to have someone come into your home and repair something you may be able to repair yourself at little or no cost. I would suggest that we first attempt to get your equipment running with a few easy procedures that I could easily explain over the phone. If we come to the conclusion that I would need to come to your home, there is no diagnostic fee/trip charge, although you would be charged for our initial contact/over the phone repair.
